Frequently Asked Questions

Why include commissions?

Fees are charged on both the buy and the sell side, and on small trades they can meaningfully reduce the return — the break-even price shows the level you must beat just to get even.

Does this include dividends or taxes?

No. Dividend income and capital gains tax are separate; add any dividends you received to judge the full return, and remember tax is taken when the gain is realised.

What is the break-even price?

The sell price at which total proceeds equal total cost including both commissions — below it you lose money.
